Perth summers are long, dry and hot, and heat illness on site is preventable.
Start earlier
An early start shifts the heaviest work into the cooler part of the day. Where site hours and neighbours allow it, this is the single most effective change.
Water and shade
Drinking water on site, not in a ute at the far gate. Shade for breaks. Both are the client's responsibility as much as the crew's.
Break rhythm
Shorter, more frequent breaks beat one long one. Working straight through to finish early sounds efficient and is how people end up unwell.
Watch for it
Confusion, stumbling, cramping and stopping sweating are warning signs, not toughness. Anyone showing them stops working and gets cooled down.
Plan the programme around it
Where possible, schedule the hardest physical work outside January and February afternoons.
