Putting the wrong thing in a bin can mean the whole load is reclassified and charged at a much higher rate.
Generally fine
General household and office waste, furniture, clean timber, cardboard and packaging, scrap metal, and clean brick, concrete and rubble — usually in a dedicated heavy bin.
Generally not accepted
- Asbestos and any material suspected of containing it.
- Paint, solvents, oils, fuels and chemicals.
- Batteries and gas bottles.
- Tyres, in most general bins.
- Wet concrete and slurry.
- Food and putrescible waste in a construction bin.
Keep heavy loads separate
Clean concrete, brick and rubble is cheaper to dispose of on its own than mixed with general waste. Mixing is the most common and most expensive mistake.
