A jackhammer is the right tool more often than people think, and the wrong one more often than they admit.
Good for
- Breaking up slabs, paths and footings where a machine cannot reach.
- Removing tile beds and screed.
- Opening up sections of masonry.
- Work inside buildings, upper levels, and tight side access.
Not the answer for
- Large volumes of concrete where an excavator has access — far slower and more expensive.
- Precise openings that need a clean edge — that is saw cutting.
- Anything structural without propping in place first.
What it does to the surroundings
Noise, vibration and dust. In occupied buildings and tight residential streets, plan the hours and warn the neighbours. Dust suppression is worth the effort.
