"Demolition" covers everything from stripping a tenancy back to bare structure to taking a building down entirely.
Soft strip
Removing everything non-structural: fit-out, partitions, ceilings, floor coverings, joinery, fixtures. The building stays standing. This is the common one for retail and office changeovers, and for renovations.
Full demolition
The structure comes down. Different equipment, different permits, different waste streams, and services need to be formally disconnected first.
Why the distinction matters
They are priced and planned differently. Telling a contractor "we need demolition" when you mean a soft strip will get you a quote for the wrong job. Describe what you want left standing at the end — that is the clearest way to say it.
