Handover inspections fail on small, visible things far more often than on big ones.
The usual misses
- Window and door tracks still full of construction dust.
- Stickers and protective film on glass, appliances and tapware.
- Paint spots on hardware, switches and skirtings.
- Silicone smears on glass and tiles.
- Inside cupboards and drawers — frequently skipped entirely.
- Light fittings and exhaust fans.
- The garage, the meter box and the external surrounds.
Do a walk-through first
Walk it as if you were the inspector, in daylight, before the crew leaves. A list found while the crew is still on site is a twenty-minute fix. Found afterwards, it is another mobilisation.
Leave time
Booking the clean for the morning of the inspection leaves no room for anything to be wrong.
