Undersize the crew and the clean runs into the following day. Oversize it and people work around each other.
What drives the number
- Floor area, obviously — but also how broken up it is. Twenty small rooms take longer than one open floor of the same size.
- How much waste is still on site. Loading out is often the bigger half of the job.
- The finish required. A rough tidy between trades and a handover clean are different jobs.
- The deadline. If it has to be done before an inspection tomorrow, that sets the crew size.
A sensible approach
Split the work into load-out and detail clean. Load-out takes numbers; detail takes time and care. Trying to do both with the same small crew is what causes overruns.
