Perth lawns grow in bursts. A fixed fortnightly schedule is either too often or not often enough for most of the year.
Spring
The fastest growth of the year. Weekly to fortnightly. Let it get away and you will be scalping it to catch up, which stresses the lawn.
Summer
Growth slows in the real heat, but do not cut short. Longer leaf shades the soil, holds moisture and protects the roots. Raise the height and mow less often.
Autumn
A second growth period as the heat eases. Back to a regular cycle.
Winter
Slowest growth. Monthly is often enough, though wet conditions and weeds may need attention between cuts.
The general rule
Never remove more than about a third of the leaf in one cut. Little and often beats rare and drastic.
