Most slow starts on a labour hire job are not about the workers. They are about nobody having told them what good looks like.
Cover these before work starts
- Who is in charge. One name, one phone number. If that person leaves site, say who takes over.
- Where things are. Amenities, water, the bin, the smoko area, where to park, where not to park.
- The actual task. Not "help out" — say what finished looks like and roughly when you expect it.
- Site rules. Induction requirements, exclusion zones, anything that is live or fragile.
- What tools are provided and what the crew should bring.
Say what matters most
If the priority is not damaging a finished floor, say that first. If the priority is clearing the area before a 2pm delivery, say that instead. Crews work to the goal you give them.
Check in early
A two-minute look at the work half an hour in catches a misunderstanding while it is still cheap to fix. It is the single most useful thing a supervisor can do on the first morning.
